We had a blast coordinating and working Jacob Orlov’s Bar Mitzvah earlier this month. What an event! There were 80 kids and 100 adults, so it was non stop action all night long! An added bonus was someone donned a panda costume towards the end of the night, so all the kids ending up dancing around the panda! This isn’t something we normally do, but who knows, we may have to include it for the future!

We worked with the Orlovs from the beginning to plan all the details of the event, and with so many people, it needed lots of planning! Alan, Grady, Serge, and RJ put together a great mix of music and dancing for everyone to enjoy. Serge with his “b-boy” moves particularly got the kids out on the dance floor and Grady was popping and locking with the best of them! We the adults out on the dance floor while the kids were eating, and when they were finished we played games with the kids so they could get involved too. There was just so much positive energy throughout the event, it was contagious! Jacob’s dad, Brian Orlov, who is a professional photographer (www.brianorlovphoto.com), added an additional element to the night by setting up a photo booth, and he had someone make custom T-shirts for the event, too, so everyone got a memento of the occasion.

Earlier in March, we had the pleasure of working with the Solomon Family again on a second event; this time, for son Ben’s Bar Mitzvah at the Embassy Suites in Burlingame. The Solomons are always a joy to work with, and it’s particularly fun to see the whole family get on the dance floor—all kids, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

We worked with Susie to plan the party from the beginning, and per Ben’s request, the party colors were black and gold, and the theme was “Welcome to B-Town.” With Ben’s top ten songs consisting of LMFAO, Wiz Khalifa, and Drake, Susie wanted to make sure that we played lots of hip hop for the kids but also wanted to keep some of the traditional elements like a Hora, Zemer-Tik and Mayim. She mentioned how she loved the group/line dancing we offered at her other son, Aaron’s Bar Mitzvah, and she also wanted to include some oldies but goodies to get the young-at-heart up on the dance floor too, so we knew we’d have a great mix of music for the Solomons.

We were contacted by Ileana Sterental just a few weeks’ before her son’s Bar Mitzvah. Ileana was panicking because the DJ she had hired for the party had cancelled at the last minute. Unfortunately, she had hired a “budget DJ” who was only charging $500, but he had cancelled on her because he had been offered a higher paying job. Unfortunately, Ileana is not alone in having this type of thing happen to her: this happens a lot when you go with a “budget DJ.” Sometimes they don’t even show up for the event.

As many of her family was coming from Venezuela, there was no way that she was going to be able to cancel the party at the last minute, so we were pleased that we were able to offer her our services. Luckily, two of our team members, Grady Turner and Ralph Evangelista, were free for her afternoon event, and we were able to step in and save her son’s Bar Mitzvah!

At the Mitzvah at the Crown Plaza Cabana in Palo Alto in mid-February, Ralph spun the tunes and provided a fantastic Latin feel with a great mix of salsa and merengue tunes to keep all of the guests on the dance floor. Grady kept the kids occupied and having fun with lots of games and dancing, and the event was truly a great success!

Jacob's Night Club Themed Bar Mitzvah

In early February, we worked with Lisa Leisten on her son’s Bar Mitzvah Celebration held at the College of San Mateo. With our mitzvah celebrations, we listen to your needs and put together a plan for what’s right for your family! With the Leistens, we offered coordination for the whole event, including decoration, lighting, talent, and casino, so they didn’t need to worry about a thing. Lisa gave us a glowing review:

Our first event of 2012 we had the pleasure of providing entertainment for Nancy Fischbein’s daughter’s Eliana’s Bat Mitzvah, held at Trader Vic’s in Palo Alto. Alan Waltz, Grady Turner, and Megan Purcell provided the music and dancing entertainment.

We kicked it off old school style and got Grady and Megan dancing to some of the best old school tracks that got all the adults up and dancing. Not only do we offer dancers, we also teach adults and kids some of the best dance moves. Whether you’re looking for a bit of swing or the Electric Slide, our dancers will get everyone up and moving, and Grady and Megan are some of the best there are! Grady has performed with the Oakland A’s and the Harlem Globetrotters, and he is truly a star in the community!
